Welcome to day three guys!
Today we climbed up the Rock and widened our artistic scope with our visit to MoMA a.k.a The Museum of Modern Art
We had a late start to the day, with breakfast at Starbucks - yet again - and hopping onto the subway at around 11ish. I met someone who works at Starbucks in Vancouver the day before and she recommended a Vanilla Iced Americano, which I definitely recommend if you like to drink black coffee!
By the time we got to the Rockefeller Centre, it was already midday but luckily, there weren't any long queues or waiting times. I would definitely recommend climbing this building, if on a time constraint! We were practically in and out the building in around 45 minutes!
The price is quite hefty though. We bought a special combo ticket - MoMARock - which included tickets to enter MoMA, for $44, saving us $10.
I have to say, the views were amazing as usual. The concrete jungle and landscapes truly are spectacular, wherever in the city.
It wasn't too crowded, so we got to take pictures of ourselves (we sound so narcissistic) and of the landscapes without any people photobombing us.
The only thing I was disappointed at was the smog that appeared right when we climbed up the Rock. It diminished our photographs and our view quite a bit. So definitely go when there's clear skies and sun!
Next stop was lunch. By this time, we were practically starving and looking for somewhere to eat. I forgot the name of the cafe but it's located across the road from the MoMA main entrance. The food is delicious and you're able to make your own salads/sandwiches and burritos for less than $10!
Anyway, at around 1pm, we finally entered MoMA. I have to say, we were quite lost when we first went in. However, after finishing the Production Line of Happiness exhibition, we got straight into the groove of museum-ing (if that's a word haha).
Overall, I would definitely recommend visiting MoMA - even if it takes a whole day to go around the museum.
I really enjoyed the Lygia Clark exhibition, which was very interactive, as well as Christopher William's photographs.
They also showed my favourite artist; Cezanne and other famous artists, such as Van Gogh and his Starry Night painting and Dali's The Persistence of Memory.
By the time we finished going around MoMA, it was already dinner time. We were all hungry and we thought it'd be better to eat around Times Square, since we wanted to shop a little bit after dinner.
We decided on Olive Garden. I suggest you don't eat here. It was overpriced and wasn't worth all that money. If you're around Times Square and hungry, I'd suggest you walk a bit more to Lexington or 8th Avenue. Shake Shack is only 10 minutes away from Times Square - it's nicer and cheaper!
After our mini shopping trip, we headed straight back to the hostel. Although it may have seemed like a more tranquil day, I was still definitely exhausted!
