Taberu

Here's another review for a Japanese Restaurant, which is located on Cowley Road, Oxford.

I really liked the interior at Taberu.
It actually made the effort to give off the Oriental vibe and they did it in a simple but really chic way.
The colour scheme, furniture and interior decorations really worked well together. The sushi bar also looked very modern and chic, albeit being really small.
The lighting was good; it was enough to both see and create a good mood and vibe, which was also reflected on the atmosphere.

The food really disappointed me.
Having already written about another Japanese restaurant earlier on the blog (Eat Tokyo), the food here was really subpar.
The ramen was practically cold when it was served and it was all yellow.
The noodles, sweetcorn, egg… all yellow. The only thing that gave it colour was the seaweed strip and a few spring onions.
I would have ignored the yellow-ness of it all… that is until I actually ate some and the whole ramen was just not worth the £7.50 or so I paid for. It was edible but really below average. Yo! Sushi ramen was better than this.
The pumpkin korroke was alright. The outer layer was good, with its nice crunch, as well as the pumpkin itself.
The same couldn’t be said with the prawn tempura.
Nicole ordered these and she was really upset with them. The size of them, for starters, was ridiculous. Most Japanese restaurants would serve king sized prawns. These were really just unacceptable, especially with the price that Nicole had to pay.
The only thing that really saved the visit was their sushi.
The cucumber and salmon rolls were really nice and the proportions were good too.
The best thing was Nicole’s salmon nigiri. The salmon was in perfect condition and there was a good ratio of salmon to rice. The only thing that she was put off by was the rice, as the rice easily crumbled.
Vegetable Ramen £7.50 // Pumpkin Korroke £3.30 // Prawn Tempura £5.20 // Cucumber Hosomaki £2.80 // Salmon Maki £3.60

NB. Sorry for the terrible editing. I was editing these pictures on the plane and had to lower the brightness of my screen so I couldn't see what I was doing haha
